Despite the high society and country club opportunities, Stacie went against the Noth family culture and maintained her independence - she had a good job as HR specialist at a large insurance company and volunteers at a local shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Her life changes drastically when Stacie catches Ted in the "act" and files for divorce. The final papers are in the works with the custody battle over Jasper, their Maltese, finally resolved and Ted is murdered. Once she is cleared of the murder, she retakes her maiden name and her life.

Jillian is Stacie's best friend. They met in college where they were both first generation students. Jillian has straight black hair, fair complexion, tall with an athletic build. She speaks her mind and says what she means. She works at Foster's Insurance with Stacie as a Section Manager. She married Wade Fleetwood, who works for Global Security. Jillian provides support and encouragement, and joins in her sleuthing activities.
